Many times we have seen instances where we may introduce people to our friends or family and they become closer to them than us and sometimes as human you could get offended or jealous but one thing we need to assess is our reception to such people.
How you receive people goes a long way how close they may get to you and as we desire to get closer to Jesus, it is paramount that we take a look at RECEIVING JESUS.
We want to use the case study of two sisters and how they received Jesus. Sometimes even the reception area of an office, church or a hotel hints on the quality of service they may provide.
Martha and Mary were two sisters of Lazarus and the Bible says Jesus loved them. We will use three instances Jesus visited and how they respectively received Jesus.
1. IN THEIR HOME (Martha hosts Jesus)
Now in Luke 10:38-42 it was Martha that had invited Jesus home but it looks like her sister Mary snatched Jesus from her by their different styles of RECEIVING JESUS.
“Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.”
Luke 10:38-39 NKJV
So actually Martha was the host while Mary was new to Jesus but that sister who entertains your friends for you. Bible says she sat at the feet of Jesus and heard His word.
Receiving Jesus, like Mary we must have TIME for Jesus. We must also entertain Jesus, we must recognize and reverence who He is, we must honor(exalt) Jesus, spend quality time (just you and Jesus), worship Jesus like Mary who sat at his feet and also spend time in the Bible, pray and have time to listen to His voice.
Martha on the other hand was busy working, trying to impress Jesus, blaming others and she was self righteous. Many times we are like Martha who brings Jesus home but doesn’t know how to RECEIVE JESUS and yet when the people we introduce Jesus embrace Him we begin to discredit them, condemn them, tell of how well they may not know Him and or feel we are better than them but Jesus puts Martha on the right spot , “ you worry too much, you complain too much, you are too busy, and self righteous in your own eyes but you’re wrong”.
Personally this story changed my life last year not to worry about anyone but myself first. Not to worry what May be done to me, against me or even said about me, but worry about me getting better and indeed being Jesuscentered..
